Description
Our existence on planet Earth is a delicate balance between the first and final
moments. A tightly strung cord that Mother Nature lengthens and shortens,
without notice or explanation. The installation of DELICATE BALANCE explores
the relationship of modern technology and organic ecological rhythms.
Using images of butterflies, the sculptor projects a careful ponder to examine
indiscriminate practices that may be harmful to the natural world. The visual image
encourages to rethink ideas and respect the delicate balance of our human race.
The sculptor hopes to generate stewardship for a sustainable balance.
The sculpture is made in stainless steel and finished in a random polish and lightly colored with a translucent powder coat. The free-moving "butterfly ball: measures 30" in diameter. It is a collection of 100+ welded machine-cut butterfly forms representing Colorado Native species. To the interior of the ball is a glass mosaic in blues and orange. There is a solar element that emits color changing light beginning at dusk and into the evening. The solar light is set to appear to be breathing as it rotates through its color changes. The light element emits light but does not broadcast light.
