"Corinna"

Description

was an ancient Greek lyric poet from Tanagra in Boeotia. Writing in the local Boeotian dialect, she drew inspiration from her homeland’s myths and traditions. Ancient accounts describe her as a rival of Pindar, whom she reportedly defeated in poetry competitions. Traditionally dated to the fifth century BCE, she is placed by some scholars in the third century BCE. Only fragments of her poetry survive, preserving a distinctive female voice in ancient Greek literature.
